Description
A quick, budget-friendly sweet snack that transforms fresh or canned pineapple into a sticky, golden, caramelized treat using simple ingredients and an air fryer.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3–4 cups pineapple chunks (fresh or canned in juice, drained and patted dry)
- 1 tablespoon butter or coconut oil
- 1–2 teaspoons granulated sugar or brown sugar (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Prep the pineapple: If using fresh, peel, core, and cut into 1-inch chunks. If using canned, drain thoroughly and pat dry with paper towels to ensure crispiness.
- Season the fruit: Place pineapple chunks in a medium bowl. Add melted butter or coconut oil, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Toss gently with tongs until every piece is lightly coated.
- Preheat the air fryer: Set to 375°F (190°C) and let it heat up for about 3 minutes.
- Cook the pineapple: Place pineapple in the air fryer basket in a single layer without overlapping. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Flip halfway: At the 3-minute mark, shake the basket or use tongs to flip the pieces for even browning.
- Check and serve: After 5 minutes, check for golden brown edges. Add 1-2 minutes if needed, but watch closely to prevent burning. Let cool for 1 minute before serving.
Notes
Ensure pineapple is dry before cooking to prevent steaming. Do not overcrowd the basket; cook in batches if necessary. Sugar burns quickly, so monitor closely near the end of cooking. For a spicy kick, add a pinch of cayenne or chili powder.
