Crispy Bourbon Chicken – Easy 5-Ingredient Dump and Go Meal

  • Author: jonathan_morgan
  • Total Time: 3 hours 10 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A tender, slow-cooked chicken thigh recipe with a sweet and savory bourbon glaze, finished with a crispy broil or air-fry step for the perfect texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 1/2 cup bourbon whiskey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Sesame seeds for garnish
  • Green onions, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the chicken with cornstarch, garlic powder, and ginger powder until evenly coated.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the bourbon, soy sauce, and brown sugar until the sugar is dissolved.
  4. Place the coated chicken in a 6-quart slow cooker and pour the sauce mixture over the top.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or on high for 3 hours until the chicken is tender.
  6. If the sauce is too thin, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water and stir it into the slow cooker on high for the last 30 minutes to thicken.
  7. Preheat your oven broiler or air fryer to 400°F.
  8. Remove the chicken from the slow cooker and brush lightly with vegetable oil.
  9. Place chicken on a baking sheet and broil for 2-3 minutes until golden and caramelized, or air fry for 5 minutes.
  10. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Serve immediately.

Notes

Patting the chicken dry is crucial for crispiness. Use cornstarch instead of flour for a lighter crunch. Watch closely during the broiling step as sugar burns quickly. If you don’t drink alcohol, substitute bourbon with extra chicken broth or apple cider.
