Description
A tender, slow-cooked chicken thigh recipe with a sweet and savory bourbon glaze, finished with a crispy broil or air-fry step for the perfect texture.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 1/2 cup bourbon whiskey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- Sesame seeds for garnish
- Green onions, chopped for garnish
Instructions
- Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- In a large bowl, toss the chicken with cornstarch, garlic powder, and ginger powder until evenly coated.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the bourbon, soy sauce, and brown sugar until the sugar is dissolved.
- Place the coated chicken in a 6-quart slow cooker and pour the sauce mixture over the top.
- Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or on high for 3 hours until the chicken is tender.
- If the sauce is too thin, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water and stir it into the slow cooker on high for the last 30 minutes to thicken.
- Preheat your oven broiler or air fryer to 400°F.
- Remove the chicken from the slow cooker and brush lightly with vegetable oil.
- Place chicken on a baking sheet and broil for 2-3 minutes until golden and caramelized, or air fry for 5 minutes.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Serve immediately.
Notes
Patting the chicken dry is crucial for crispiness. Use cornstarch instead of flour for a lighter crunch. Watch closely during the broiling step as sugar burns quickly. If you don’t drink alcohol, substitute bourbon with extra chicken broth or apple cider.
