Homemade Apple Crescent Rolls: 5-Ingredient Budget Treat

  • Author: jonathan_morgan
  • Total Time: 33 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

Fluffy, buttery crescent rolls filled with spiced sautéed apples and topped with a sweet glaze. This budget-friendly recipe comes together in under 30 minutes using simple pantry staples.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough (triangles)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar, sifted (for glaze)
  • 12 teaspoons milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and dice apples into small, uniform pieces. Toss with lemon juice and set aside.
  3. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook for about 3 minutes, stirring frequently, until apples soften slightly but retain some bite. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. Unroll crescent dough onto a cutting board and separate triangles along perforated lines. Press any tears closed.
  5. Place about 1 tablespoon of the apple mixture near the wide base of each triangle. Roll tightly from the wide end to the point, curving into a crescent shape.
  6. Place rolls seam-side down in a 9-inch pie pan or baking dish.
  7. Brush the tops of the crescents with melted butter.
  8. Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown and puffy.
  9. While baking, whisk powdered sugar and milk together to create a smooth glaze.
  10. Remove rolls from oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Drizzle with glaze and serve warm.

Notes

Keep the dough cold until baking to ensure flaky layers. Do not overfill the rolls to prevent bursting. Sautéing the apples first prevents a soggy bottom. For best results, use firm apples like Granny Smith that hold their shape.
