Description
A quick, budget-friendly honey garlic chicken marinade made with pantry staples. This sticky, savory-sweet dish transforms ordinary chicken thighs into a takeout-quality meal in under 30 minutes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup honey
- 4–5 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- Chicken thighs or breasts
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and vegetable oil. Whisk until honey is mostly dissolved.
- Add minced garlic, black pepper, ginger, and red pepper flakes to the bowl. Stir to distribute evenly.
- Prepare chicken by pounding breasts to even thickness or leaving thighs whole. Cut into bite-sized pieces if preferred.
- Add chicken to the marinade bowl or a zip-top bag. Toss to coat. Marinate in the fridge for 10-30 minutes.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add a little extra oil if needed.
- Lay chicken in the pan, leaving space between pieces. Cook for 5-6 minutes per side until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
- If desired, boil leftover marinade for two minutes to kill bacteria, then drizzle over finished chicken. Garnish with sesame seeds.
Notes
Watch the heat carefully as honey burns easily. Keep heat at medium to prevent garlic from becoming bitter. Pat chicken dry before cooking for better browning. Do not reuse marinade that touched raw chicken unless boiled first. For meal prep, marinate for 2-4 hours for best texture.
