One-Skillet Hamburger Broccoli Skillet: Easy 15-Min Meal

  • Author: jonathan_morgan
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A quick and easy weeknight dinner featuring ground beef and broccoli in a savory, slightly sweet sauce, all cooked in a single skillet for minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound 80/20 ground beef
  • 1 large head fresh broccoli, cut into bite-sized florets
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Wash and chop broccoli into bite-sized florets. Mince garlic and grate ginger. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, beef broth, oyster sauce, and sesame oil. Set aside.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook for 5-7 minutes until fully browned. Drain excess grease if necessary, leaving about a tablespoon.
  3. Push beef to one side and add garlic and ginger to the empty space. Cook for 30 seconds until fragrant, then stir to combine.
  4. Add broccoli florets to the skillet. Pour in 1/2 cup water and cover with a lid. Steam for 3-4 minutes until crisp-tender.
  5. Remove lid and pour the prepared sauce over the beef and broccoli. Stir to coat and simmer for 2 minutes.
  6. Stir the cornstarch slurry and pour it into the skillet while stirring constantly. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
  7. Remove from heat. Drizzle with toasted sesame oil and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Serve immediately over rice or noodles.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, use tamari instead of soy sauce. If using frozen broccoli, do not thaw it first and steam for an additional minute. Ensure the cornstarch is mixed with cold water before adding to prevent clumping. Do not overcrowd the pan when browning beef to ensure proper searing.
