Description
These soft, buttery dinner rolls are made with simple pantry staples to save money without sacrificing taste. They are perfect for busy weeknights, meal prep, and feeding a crowd.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk
- ½ cup warm water
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for dough)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for topping)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well and pour in the yeast mixture and melted butter. Mix until dough comes together.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down dough and roll out into a ½ inch thick rectangle. Cut into squares or triangles.
- Place rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan, leaving space between them.
- Cover and let rolls rise for another 30 minutes until puffy.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Immediately brush hot rolls with melted butter. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
Ensure liquid ingredients are warm (105°F-110°F) but not hot to avoid killing the yeast. Knead until dough feels like an earlobe. Rolls can be frozen after the first rise or baked and frozen for later. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
